Materials for the Arts, a program in Queens, is a large re-use center. They collect & accept donations from various companies, and donors, which they then sort, and store so that other art-based organizations or programs can come and pick up the materials for free. For example Materials for the Arts is the single largest provider of art supplies to NYC public school teachers. Our work crews help clean their storage area, and sort new donations into their proper locations.

Recycle-A-Bicycle is program that teaches young people the importance of cycling, and recycling. In their Long Island City warehouse they accept donations of discarded bicycles from around the city, that otherwise would have ended up in a land fill, take them apart, and use the good parts for rebuilding bikes, and recycle the broken pieces. Our work crews are able to take apart the bikes and sort the pieces for Recycle-A-Bicycle, which gives them more time to work with their youth, and build new bikes.

As NYC Community Cleanup moves forward we look to continue our current partnerships as well as seek new organizations, to expand our services to the many deserving local organizations that already do so much good for their communities.

The Food Bank procures and distributes food to a network of approximately 1,000 food assistance programs citywide. In addition, we provide food safety and capacity-building workshops; manage school nutrition education programs, after-school and emergency food programs; conduct food stamp prescreening and outreach; operate a soup kitchen and food pantry; coordinate the largest Tax Assistance Program in the country; and develop policy and conduct research to inform community and government efforts to end food poverty throughout New York City. NYC Community Cleanup brings work crews to the Foodbank's Food Distribution Center to sort and process donations.
